A Note to Our Visitors: Puerto Vallarta Is Open and Welcoming

Updated: Mar 3

We want to address the recent unrest in parts of Mexico, including here in Puerto Vallarta, and update where things are now. Our goal is to acknowledge what happened without amplifying it; to give a local’s perspective. We have seen the sensationalized coverage from the US media and want to give you a boots-on-the-ground report.

Parts of Jalisco experienced coordinated road blockades using vehicle fires; the damage was limited to property, and no civilians were injured. It was serious, it moved quickly, and it was resolved just as quickly. By the next day, the unrest was over. People were still sheltering-in-place to give the authorities space to clean up. The day after that, things were back to normal. Schools reopened. Flights continued. Restaurants, tours, beach vendors, and small businesses returned to their regular rhythm.

In other words: life here moved forward.

Puerto Vallarta is a city that has long welcomed visitors from around the world. Tourism is not a side industry here; it is woven into daily life. Local authorities respond swiftly when events occur because stability matters deeply to this community.

We also want to say something about the local people here.

The people of Mexico are resilient. They are hardworking, proud, and accustomed to navigating challenges with calm strength. This moment of disruption does not define this place. What defines it is community, warmth, and the steady hum of daily life returning to normal.

Unfortunately, things are not normal. Mr. Flamingos is slow, traffic is light, and the bike path on the Malecon is not clogged with pedestrian tourists like it usually is this time of year.

If you have a trip planned, you should feel comfortable reaching out with questions. We live and work here. We are not speaking from headlines; we are speaking from what we see every day.

Travel always requires awareness. That is true anywhere in the world. But Puerto Vallarta remains the vibrant, welcoming destination it has always been.

We look forward to seeing you on the sand soon.
